OUR MISSION STATEMENT: To provide modern, up to date facilities and equipment to the people of Toowoomba and distict and vistors to the club for the enjoyment of clay target sport. To encourage youth to take up the sport and to promote the sport in every way possible. Clay Target is one of the
most popular and fast growing of the target sports. The firearm used is a shotgun
with "clay" targets 100mm in diameter and 20mm thick. These are launched
by the "thrower" at consistent speeds and varying angles, thus providing
the competitor with a small, fast moving target. There are three distinct clay target disciplines...
Clay target is a sport in which anyone can take part. Regardless of age, gender, physical size or level of fitness, all participants compete equally. It is very family friendly, suitable for all family members. Grades have been set to provide equal competition between those of similar abilities from Juniors to Veterans. It is an excellent sport choice for the disabled. A firearms license is required to use a shotgun. Persons over the age of 11 may obtain a license and participate. However, an unlicensed person may still "have a go" under the provisions of a "form 33A", obtainable at the secretary's office. Suitable picture ID will also be necessary. To apply for a license, you must first complete a "Firearm Safety Training Course" with an authorised training provider, obtaining a "Firearm Safety Certificate", which includes knowledge of the laws controlling the sport here in Queensland |
Toowoomba Clay Target Club inc. membership is conditional on the member participating in at least 4 competitions per year. Our club recommends you not purchase a shotgun until you have tried many different makes and models. The club can supply a shot gun you can use until you choose and purchase one of your own. Your local sports store is usually happy to supply a "try shotgun" to help you make your decision. |
The simulation of bird flight by a clay target was the first shooting discipline. From early 1900's "Clay Target Sport" was considered as the premiere shooting pass-time and in early part of the century there was enough interest throughout the country to hold national Championships.
Sophisticated reliable traps are now in use and throw the clays for the competitors who enjoy the availability of multiple disciplines at a single range. Thus we promote and encourage Clay Target Sport competition even as high as Olympic standards. The sport can be extremely competitive and through Government and other grants, and "The Australian Clay Target Association" competitors can achieve international status in the Commonwealth Games or Olympics. For those who wish to participate just for fun, it is the ideal sport. Whether at an international ground or at a local club the novice will always find someone to help and guide them through the first few targets and then coach them onto being more proficient. Clay Target shooting is one of Australia's fastest growing sports and many business organisations and schools take advantage of the "Corporate Days " provided by Toowoomba Club. Qualified instructors assist shooters at all levels from first timers to more proficient competitors! ...A great day is assured! . | ![]() |
